the ALPHA Course is Here!
sign up for Alpha – starting Wed, Feb 1, 2012. Alpha is a 13 week, small-group driven, conversational way of answering some of the big questions people ask about being a Christian.
Alpha topics include, “Why did Jesus die?, How and why should I read the Bible?, Who is the Holy Spirit?, Does God still heal today?, How can I make the most of the rest of my life?”
Alpha participants eat a meal together, watch a presentation on the subject of the week, then meet with a regular small-group of folks to discuss. The learning is relevant and life-transforming, and you’ll find that your faith is strengthened in ways you might never expect. Alpha can be truly life-transforming for non, new or established Christians alike.
A preliminary session “Christianity; Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?” will be held on Wed, Jan 25, 2012 to introduce the curious to the course.
Contact Pastor Mitch or the church office at 254-6900 to RSVP…and plan to bring a friend!
We have several Sunday School classes and fellowship groups geared towards adults. All classes and ages meet for Sunday school at 10:10 AM weekly. Don’t miss the UMM/UMW page too.
Young Adult Fellowship
This isn’t your granddaddy’s Sunday School class! Our newest gathering is a conversational gathering of young adults (18-20s). They meet on the third floor at 10:10 each week to watch a Nooma video or discuss a hot topic important to them. Outside social functions too! Kiz Collins leads the discussion.
Seekers SS Class
You can find the Seekers on the 3rd floor at 10:10 each Sunday AM. Made up of generally 30-40 somethings (both married couples and singles), Seekers are a vital and active group within the church. They often take on Bible-based topical studies. Jeff Porter is the class leader.
Mizpah SS Class
Mizpah, a Hebrew word, means Watchtower. Founded in 1954, the class meets each Sunday in the Fellowship Hall; about 60 people usually attend. Primarily older adults but all ages are welcome. They also hold a few socials every year.
Mizpah is not only involved with many church functions but also in many activities throughout the Independence community including serving a meal the 3rd Friday of each month at Crossroad Shelter of Salvation Army. Pat Bounds organizes the class and Ruby Smith teaches.
Are you an active Senior? Then the Sunsetters is for you! It’s not a Sunday-school class but a fellowship of Christian friends. They share in day trips, occasionally take in an evening play, sponsor game nights…they’re hard to keep up with. Singles and couples, guys and gals alike, you’ll find fun and genuine fellowship through this group of go-getters. Adele Rohr and Nylene Sage lead the charge.
Anavan SS Class
Anavan is a small group of senior ladies who partake of a Bible-based study each Sunday in the church library. Kathy Moore leads the class.
