Current Sermon Series
The four gospel writers paint four different portraits of who Jesus is and what he came to do. Mark paints Jesus as a savior of action, Matthew carefully links Jesus to his Jewish roots, Luke shows the evangelical Jesus and John focus’ on the mystery of the unique God/man. Which is your favorite expression of the Christ and why? Which portrait of Jesus resonates most with you and why? Join us throughout Lent as we consider “who, what and why Jesus” from four different vantage points.
2012 Ongoing Sermon Series
Maybe you’re familiar with the public broadcasting show
called the Victory Garden.
It’s the longest running gardening program ever, it’s been on since 1975. It’s a show about vegetables and flowers and starting seeds; everything gardening.
I don’t know if it’s still filmed in the same place, but the Victory Garden is absolutely beautiful, the soil is perfectly black and the garden is full and fruitful…it’s the kind of Eden that can make any gardener excited about what they might do in their own back-yard.
What a lot of people don’t realize, however, is that the Victory Garden was once a parking lot; all pavement and tar, gravel and puddles of oil; a parking lot. And the soil under the parking lot was compacted and heavy with clay, not a very promising place for cultivation. Interesting isn’t it…how something like a parking lot can be transformed into something so beautiful?
Join us throughout 2012 as we go on a video journey of Pastor Mitch’s very own victory garden at the parsonage house. We’ll check in seasonally to see how the flowers and vegetables are growing, while considering the gardening and agricultural metaphors Jesus used to talk about tending our souls. And just maybe we’ll find that the hard and compacted soil of our own lives has untold potential to yield bounty and beauty like we’d never have guessed.
Topics we’ll look at include:
Fall Doesn’t Equate to Finished (John 12:20-26). Watch the video at http://youtu.be/RbGS7cQ61yM
the Sabbath of Winter (Psalm 62:1, 116:7, 131:2-3)
